Ras Al Khaimah is the fourth largest in terms of area and population of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Its name means “Head of the Tent”, according to one local tradition the name originated from the golden top of the tent of the leader of a Persian tribe who camped in Ras Al Khaimah while on his way to overthrow the Ya’ariba dynasty in Oman. Sailors passing by called the sight Ras el Keime, which in Arabic signifies the point of the tent.

The city of Ras Al Khaimah, the capital of the emirate, is divided into two parts by a creek, the western part, known as “old Ras Al Khaimah” comprses government departments, educational institutions and shopping malls. The eastern part, known as “Al Nakheel” houses the Emiri Court, markets and residential areas. The two parts are linked by a bridge and a network of modern roads.

Ras Al Khaimah is a fast growing tourism destination that is still bound by its timeless cultural legacies and the special warmth of Arab hospitality.
The emirate offers perhaps the most scenic and fertile land in the UAE, beautiful stretches of beach, impressive sheer red sand dunes and rugged mountains with secret wadi’s, and all only 50 minutes from Dubai.
